Swing Bed is an intermediate care program for patients who have not fully recovered from their hospital visit. It allows patients to stay close to home and still receive care from licensed nursing staff and therapists. Throughout their stay, patients are prepared for returning to their pre-hospital environment or other appropriate level of care.

Harney District Hospital’s Swing Bed Program is designed to meet your individual rehabilitation needs. Our goal is to safely discharge you to your previous living arrangement. The program may also enable you to return more quickly to your work setting.

Some of the health issues which can be addressed with Swing Bed:

Major surgery
Joint replacement
Stroke or trauma
Pain management
Wounds
Dietary consultation
Infusion therapy

Swing Bed is a Medicare program and requires:

– Daily progress toward planned recovery goals
A 3-day stay in acute care hospital setting
Need for monitoring or care by registered nurse and/or rehabilitative therapy
An order from your physician for admission into the program

There are no age restrictions and Medicare will cover the costs of the Swing Bed program when all requirements are met. Private insurances may cover the program with prior authorization.

Swing Bed Coordinator Cheryl Norton is available to assist you with any questions you may have about the program, insurance coverage or specific care.
